Doula support during the early days with a newborn — And Chillax in South London

What is a postnatal doula?

A postnatal doula (also called a postpartum doula in the US) is a trained, non-medical professional who supports you in the first weeks home with your baby — feeding, recovery, sleep, and the emotional reality of life with a newborn.

I'm a postnatal-only doula — I do not attend births. That means when I'm with you, I'm fully present and rested. If you're looking for a birth doula in South London, Doula UK can help you find one.

I bring fifteen years of NHS postnatal-ward experience to that role, including a current part-time post as a Postnatal Midwifery Assistant & Infant Feeding Specialist. So you get clinical expertise on feeding and recovery, alongside the calm, practical support that makes those early weeks easier. Read more about what a doula does →

Where I work

I'm based in Anerley (SE20) and travel for in-home doula sessions across South East and South West London — Crystal Palace, Penge, Sydenham, Beckenham, Bromley, Dulwich, Forest Hill, West Norwood, Streatham, Brixton, Tooting, Clapham, Lewisham and Blackheath. For postnatal in-home work I cap travel at 30 minutes from Anerley, so I can be present for the actual support rather than spending half the visit in traffic.

Cross-sell: doula clients save on first aid

Every doula client receives £20 off the 2-Hour Parent First Aid course. Most parents book it in the second trimester so they're feeling prepared by the time baby arrives — and then practising the techniques on a real-feel manikin makes a huge difference vs reading about it. See the course →

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between a postnatal and postpartum doula?

They're the same role with different names. Postnatal is the British term, postpartum is the American term. Both describe a trained non-medical professional who supports parents in the weeks after birth — with feeding, recovery, sleep and the emotional reality of life with a newborn.

Do you attend births as a doula?

No — I'm a postnatal-only doula. I focus on the weeks after baby arrives, not labour. This means when I'm with you, I'm fully present and rested. If you're looking for a birth doula in South London, Doula UK can help you find one.

How much does a postnatal doula cost in South London?

My antenatal preparation is £200 for two 90-minute sessions in your home. Postnatal in-home support is £35 per hour, with package discounts for longer commitments. Most clients book 20–40 hours over the first six weeks.

What does a postnatal doula actually do?

In-home support during the first six weeks: feeding help (breast and bottle), sleep guidance, light household help, mum-recovery checks, and emotional support. I bring NHS clinical eyes for spotting early signs of issues like mastitis, tongue tie or postnatal depression — and refer on when needed.

What areas of South London do you cover?

I'm based in Anerley (SE20) and travel up to 30 minutes for in-home postnatal sessions — across Crystal Palace, Penge, Sydenham, Beckenham, Bromley, Dulwich, Forest Hill, West Norwood, Streatham, Brixton, Tooting, Clapham, Lewisham and Blackheath. If you're slightly further out, get in touch and we'll work something out.

Are you Doula UK qualified?

Yes. I'm a current Doula UK member and Nurturing Birth trained doula. I also work part-time as a Postnatal Midwifery Assistant and Infant Feeding Specialist for the NHS, so you get clinical expertise alongside the calm practical support.

How soon should I book a postnatal doula?

Most clients book in the second or third trimester so they have peace of mind about the early weeks. That said, I take last-minute bookings if I have availability — including for second babies when reality hits and you realise you need support. Free 30-minute call to check fit before any commitment.

First step: a free 30-minute call.

No commitment. We talk through what you're hoping for, I tell you honestly whether I'm the right fit, and we go from there.
