Who this course is for

The Health & Safety Executive (HSE) recommends EFAW for low-risk workplaces. That covers most South London small businesses:

  • Cafés, restaurants, bars, food service
  • Hairdressers, beauticians, salons
  • Gyms, fitness studios, yoga / pilates studios
  • Retail and shops
  • Small offices & co-working spaces
  • Nurseries (combined with the paediatric course)
  • Independent professionals working alone

If your workplace is higher-risk (manufacturing, construction, lab work, large warehouses), the 1-Day EFAW won't be enough — give me a call and I'll point you to the right provider.

What you'll learn

  • The role and responsibilities of an emergency first aider
  • How to manage an incident scene safely
  • Adult CPR — chest compressions, rescue breaths, AED use
  • Choking — adult and child Heimlich technique
  • Bleeding control and shock management
  • Recovery position and assessment of an unconscious casualty
  • Burns, scalds, heat & cold exposure
  • Minor injuries — cuts, grazes, sprains

Format

One classroom day, 9:30am to 4:30pm with a break for lunch. Mostly hands-on practice on adult CPR manikins, AED trainers, and bleeding-control props. Final assessment is via practical observation — no exam, no exam stress.

Why pick a local trainer over larger first aid organisations?

I do this for about half what the larger organisations charge for small groups, and I come to your workplace. For most South London cafés, gyms and small offices, that's the difference between training one or two staff at corporate prices versus training your whole team.

You also get a working NHS clinician teaching scenarios from real practice, not a script. And — given you're reading this — the warmer, friendlier classroom that this part of South London actually wants.

Where I run this course

Open courses run at my Anerley (SE20) classroom roughly once a month. For groups of 4 or more I'll come to your workplace anywhere in South East and South West London — Crystal Palace, Penge, Sydenham, Beckenham, Bromley, Dulwich, Forest Hill, West Norwood, Streatham, Brixton, Tooting, Clapham, Lewisham and Blackheath all included.

Available dates

Open courses run roughly monthly in Anerley. For group bookings at your venue (4+ delegates), get in touch and I'll send dates within 48 hours.

Frequently asked questions

Is this HSE-recognised?

Yes. This is the HSE-compliant Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work. Your certificate is accepted by every UK employer and counts toward your workplace's first aid compliance under the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.

Is one first aider enough for my workplace?

HSE guidance: low-risk workplaces with up to 25 people need at least one EFAW-trained first aider. Higher headcounts or higher-risk environments need more. Happy to do a quick risk assessment with you on a call.

Can I do this online?

The HSE has approved blended/online options post-COVID. I do offer 6 hours online + 30 minutes practical assessment for £90 if you genuinely need it. But honest answer — the practical day is much better learning. Save online for refreshers.

Do you do refresher training?

Annual refreshers are recommended (not legally required) — half-day for £40/person. Full requalification every 3 years.

What if my team's a mix of EFAW and FAW levels?

Common in nurseries. I run combined sessions tailored to your specific staff mix. Get in touch for a quote.
